Making the Most of a Teen Room with Lowe's Stylish Storage
With extra time at home and sports schedules changing, my teenage son and I took advantage of the downtime by decluttering and organizing his room with products we ordered from Lowe’s. Anyone who has a teenage boy can sympathize with the challenge of a closet clean out as the abundance of old cleats, last year’s jerseys and sports collectibles take up far too much space.
As my teenage son transitions from boy to young man, we needed a better system for organization…one that would preserve his childhood memorabilia and would create functional space for suit jackets and size 12 athletic shoes. For a cohesive look, we started by sorting items and placing them in various sizes of water hyacinth bins. These stylish containers are the same ones you see at high end organizational stores but are half the price. The natural woven milk crates store Bobbleheads and baseball from various MLB games while the larger baskets are an easy way to save jerseys from important games. The large water hyacinth basket on the floor is the perfect size for various bags and backpacks. (Before and after below.)
My favorite additions to the closet are the fabric dressers that create functional storage in a stylish way. Baseball socks and batting gloves, that used to be thrown together with underwear, now have their own designated space in the closet. Shoes that were lined up along a wall or shoved under a bed now rest upon wooden shoe racks that can rest side by side or be stacked to save space.
For decorative storage, I added a driftwood storage bench at the end of the bed for yearbooks, photo albums and other sentimental items. I have benches at the end of each child’s bed for this specific purpose…it’s the perfect way to save or store important toys and memories. A tasseled, striped throw and new bamboo hamper finished off the room with a few items from Lowe’s home decor section. Make the most of your down time by shopping Lowe’s stylish storage!
