A Fall Table Inspired by the TEXTURES of the Season

In planning to style my home for fall, I left the buffalo check pillows and pumpkin-filled, vintage trucks in the attic. While I still appreciate that classic look, I needed something that felt a bit more fresh and a little less cluttered. Inspired by a $4.99 plate that I found at HomeGoods, this year’s autumn table was inspired by the TEXTURES of the season. If you’re looking for a more neutral color palette for fall or just want tips on how to style a table, I’ve included my favorite media styling tips below.

1.     For a gorgeous fall table, style three neutral table runners HORIZONTALLY across the table. This adds a bit more texture and gives a hard surface a lot of visual appeal.

2.     Transform bamboo or rattan lanterns into statement vases! Instead of a candle, fill the glass inside with pampas grass or your favorite dried florals. Group a collection of odd numbered vases, like these neutral, bamboo lanterns, in a cluster at varying heights.

3.     Style the table with your favorite metallic accent. Copper and gold are perfect colors for an autumn table. I added an inexpensive gold flatware set from Amazon to complement the gold rim on the dishware.

4.     Highlight a festive pumpkin or a rustic naked cake on a reclaimed wood cake stand. For many of my tables, this etuHome stand serves as both a serving piece and a beautiful piece of décor. It adds height to the table while showcasing a seasonal accent or homemade dessert. You could also use this less expensive alternative from Target.

5.     Layer the place setting…and then layer some more! The trick to any Pinterest worthy table is to add a minimum of FIVE layers to your place setting. The foundation for this setting is a water hyacinth charger. These can be seen in many of my magazine published tablescapes because they add texture and a wide, natural base to the arrangement. Paulownia trays, styled as chargers from Linen & Flax, add a layer of dimension for this look. The gold rimmed dinner plate and salad plate were $4.00 treasures found on the bottom shelf of a morning HomeGoods run. (Click here for a similar alternative.) Textured napkin ring holders and Pottery Barn napkins flanked a duo of homemade apple crisp from Meesh’s Bakery Franklin OR mini pumpkin spice cakes from Momma Nik’s Cheesecakes in Nashville. I love adding a dessert as a place setting topper. These welcome guests to the table whether they save these savory treats for after dinner or take them home as a party favor. 6.     Use mini charcuterie boards as individual bread plates or station several appetizers around the table for sampling. EtuHome makes a variety of mini boards, in various colors, that can be used as plates, displays or serving pieces.

7.     Colored glass is one of my favorite ways to add color and interest to a table. I have a collection of various goblets that I use for a variety of events or dinners. I’ve used these Amber glasses for the past several years. Table Terrain has a wonderful variety and tablescape packages that may styling your home easy.

8. Coordinate adjacent spaces. Using the same neutral color palette, I styled the reclaimed wood Lazy Susan on my kitchen island. Tall vases, filled with pampas grass and wheat, add a touch of fall while the etuhome glass dome displays fresh pastries from Scrumptious Catering.
