Teaching Kids Pet Responsibility with BarkBox

With five children under five and two tweens, our family decided to get our dog, Scout, a “friend.” That friend has now grown into an overly affectionate, 125 pound golden retriever who has a difficult time acknowledging that he is not a lap dog. Perhaps bringing home a baby and a puppy at the same time was not the best decision to be made but gifting our pups BarkBox each month was a better one.

While our dogs definitely enjoy the themed toys and treats sent in their BarkBoxes, I look forward to our canine surprises because my children gain a renewed sense of responsibility with each delivery. Like most children, the promise of caring for a puppy is forgotten shortly after the novelty of a new pet arrives. With BarkBox, my children get excited to play catch with the new plush toys and resume their dog training skills with a package of treats.

BarkBox creates custom boxes based on your dog’s size and dietary habits. Each month, toys and treats are curated to reflect the season or holiday. The September box features a squeaking boot toy, a plush, crinkle deer appropriately dressed in flannel and apple themed tennis balls.  It also include Pork ‘n’ Spice chew treats and Harvest Moo beef snacks. Whether you’re looking to spoil your pooch or provide more opportunities to teach your children about pet care, BarkBox is a subscription the entire family can appreciate!
